I've made an early start on my Modular Paper AR, meant to be a more detailed exploration of the AR-15 platform than, say, Kamikuzu's.It's also meant to be life size. This here is a quick, handmade mockup of the lower receiver, just to see how things fit together.I'll post templates for the lower receiver once I get a colored and finished version done.Yes, it's handmade, like my GM's and 105. Thankfully, though, it won't be hand-colored.
The fire selector switch is entirely operational, so you can switch it from safe to fire and vice versa. Why just the lower receiver? Because it's the most important part, and my intention is that this model will be modular, so I'll make one part and then another, and you can mix and match them if there are multiple variants. Next up, after I get the lower finalized, will probably be the grip.
will you have the barrel rifled? is the gas system gona work? i think it gona be hard.
>>218831No, I'm not going to do quite that level of detail. Right now the trigger is fixed, and there aren't any real internals.Since each part is separate, though, there's always the possibility of making a new version of a particular part. Like a new lower that has a movable trigger, or a more complex version of any other part.As of now, I don't want to do any mechanisms just yet just make it look decent from the outside and get as many of the parts done. Maybe improve later.
SO MUCH WIN!!!I would do anything for templates..
Here's the colored (if you can call that gray colored) template. I'm a bit wary about posting it as I haven't tried to build it (will tomorrow), but it's exactly the same as the mockup, with a few tab corrections, so it should be fine.
The lines are still hand-drawn, so forgive their occasional crookedness, especially as far as tabs are concerned.
Last page.Feel free to make modifications to the model, as long as you keep it the same size.
cool lower, bro. its my understanding that the lower is the most complex part? I'm looking forward to seeing a zip of all parts/module variants of this model
thanks maaannn, i loev you, btw I'm making the aa-12 shotgun, I'll post pics today :3.
hey, I just finished this lower part of the ar-15, it's freaking aewsome, I'm looking forward to the next parts...
bump cuz this thread is aewsome.
oh shit, let me tell /k/ about this
fuck yes!
All right, here is a grip. No, it's not very fancy, but it's a start.Comes in black and tan variants. Black is more classic but I made the tan one to save ink.
Next to the oversized mockup. There is a protrusion at the bottom of the lower receiver, which fits into the notch in the middle of the grip.
Black template
Tan template.Yes, it's made of three main slabs, with the center one having a different shape to accomodate the grip hook.I know, it would have been possible to combine some of these parts into more complex shapes, but since I was designing this by hand, some of it is simplified.
Unfortunately it seems that the plastic texture is too fine to be noticeable on the finished thing. Oh well, maybe the black one shows up better.
I'm printing the grips right now, I love this thread.
Sweet.
This looks awesome but I have no idea what it's supposed to be. Is this gun from a video game or something?Sorry if i sound dumb but I know nothing about guns.
>>219379It's a component for the AR-15 (M-16 cousin).http://world.guns.ru/assault/as18-e.htm Why doesn't this look like a gun right now? Because I'm making it piece by piece. As more components are added it will look more complete. The idea behind this is that if I or someone else wants to change something, then all that's needed is to redo one component. Thus, you can mix and match components together to make the model to your tastes.
sup, I have a question, I did the grip it looks kinda big, do you print in letter or A4? and are you going to do diferent barrels, and optics?
>>219411Print in letter, 8.5x11The grip should be something like this size.It might be a bit too wide at the top, but as long as the front and back fit into there, it's fine. Before doing barrels I'll have to figure out how to fit them into the upper, but yes I hope to have the barrel be a component separate from the handguard, and have different lengths. As for optics, the upper is going to be a flattop with rails, and then I'll make rear sights to attach to it. Optics are a possibility, but it's gonna be weeks, maybe months before we get to that phase.
I see, I'm from freaking brazil, so all the paper is A4, but, I don't know how, the lower is right, just the grip is big.... all the rest is fine.
bump for great win
bump again.
bumpo
Diffinitely looking forward to seeing part mods on this model. Nice work, man.
Nump!
is this dead?
bump for the greater good!
